The suspected diagnosis for the low platelets was a condition known as ITP.
After various tests this diagnosis was confirmed.
ITP stands for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura.
Roughly translated this means that the rash results from low platelets and they haven't got the foggiest idea why!
Indeed the word 'idiopathic' means 'of unknown origin'. This is fine if a condition officially has 'Idiopathic' in it's title, as it can educate you to the fact that science has yet to discover what the root cause of the problem is - it doesn't mean that they don't know how to treat it.
However - if a doctor uses the word 'Idiopathic' in relation to a problem that doesn't officially have the word 'Idiopathic' attached to it - the best advice is to run like hell - it means he/she really hasn't got the foggiest idea and probably doesn't have the first idea of what he/she is doing!!!!!!
In this instance we would have been well advised to run like hell anyway!!!!!
